City Manager
The City of La Junta has a council-manager form of government. City Council members appoint a City Manager who acts like a chief executive officer and carries out the policies and directives of the council. Even though a mayor may be elected in the council-manager form of government, the Mayor has few or no powers above and beyond those of other council members.
While the City Manager is not an elected official, they still serve the public. The City Manager oversees the daily affairs of a municipality. Some of the responsibilities of La Junta’s City Manager include:
- Developing and maintaining the City’s budget
- Advising council members regarding various issues and council decisions
- Implementing the legislation enacted by the council
- Appointing department heads and managing senior City employees
- Ensuring that City utilities and services are running smoothly and are accessible by the public
- Coordinating City development projects
- Liaising with city employees and members of the public
- Serving as the public face of the City of La Junta such as meeting with the media
- Creating local, regional, statewide, and national partnerships to strengthen the municipality’s capacity to meet needs and services
- Keeping abreast of state and national legislation affecting La Junta
Assistant City Manager
The Assistant City Manager oversees several divisions that are not managed by individual department supervisors including the Electric Department, La Junta Airport, IT System, La Junta Golf Course, Personnel and Property Management.
Property Management
Property Management controls $14 million in assets including:
- Prairie View properties
- Property and Building Leases
- St. Pat’s Office Suites
- Industrial Park Properties & Buildings
- Golf Course
City Attorney
The City of La Junta Attorney is directly appointed by the City Council. The City Attorney’s Office provides legal advice to the City Council, staff, and boards and commissions for the benefit of the citizens of the City of La Junta
The City Attorney attends all City Council meetings and drafts ordinances and resolutions. The City Attorney reviews and consults on contracts regarding City services and provides legal opinions and consulting on personnel, land use and development, property acquisition, finance, and other matters of municipal law.
