The City of La Junta Finance Department is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, accounting, utility billing and payments, accounts payable, accounts receivable and employee payroll. The Finance Department also oversees fiscal analysis, trend analysis, revenue forecasting, financial reporting and budget. Additionally, the finance department is subject to an annual audit of the fund management to ensure all procedures and regulations are followed.
The City of La Junta is required to adopt an annual budget. The city follows the fiscal year beginning January 1 and ending December 31. The budget process begins in July and ends in November with the adoption of the mill levy and appropriation ordinances. Lodging/Use Tax
Lodging tax is 4.5% and use tax is 3% within the City of La Junta. Lodging and use tax may be filed through the portal. Online service allows customers to view account history, file returns, and make payments.

Sales Tax
The sales tax rate for the City of La Junta is 4%.
Peddlers License are required for vendor’s visiting La Junta. The license application should be completed and brought to the city building at 601 Colorado Ave, La Junta. The fees are as follows: $10/day, $50/30 days, $100/365 days. Payment is required at the time the permit is issued. Licenses can be issued the same day.
The State of Colorado has been collecting sales tax for the City of La Junta since July 1, 2022. City of La Junta does not issue sales tax licenses, but requires a valid State of Colorado sales tax license to be maintained.
When filing Colorado State returns on the State of Colorado portal, please include City of La Junta sales tax under the City of La Junta column on the state return.
